Boring Technical Details

All the issues of Attitude were produced on the same hardware: a 486/66 PC running MS-DOS 6.20 and Windows 3.11. The main DTP work was done in Ventura Publisher version 4.2, with other work done in MS-Word 6.0, MS-Works 3.0, WordPerfect 5.0 and 5.1, assorted freeware text editors (including Programmer's File Editor), Corel Draw 3.0, Corel Photo-Paint 4.0, Paint Shop Pro 3.11, HP DeskScan II and WordScan Pro 3.0. An HP ScanJet IIp and a succession of HP DeskJet and LaserJet series printers provided input and output.

The first three issues were typeset in the standard Monotype Times New Roman TrueType font supplied with Windows 3.11. The rest were set in TrueType Bitstream Dutch 802, which came with Ventura. That looks very similar on-screen, and slightly worse on a printout, but much better after photocopying.

These archives were produced on John's successor PC: a dual Pentium II/233 running Windows NT 4.0. An HP ScanJet 6350C was used to scan artwork that wasn't already in electronic format, Adobe Acrobat 3.0 was used to produce the PDF files, and Adoba PageMill 3.0 for the HTML.
